From phil at lchost.co.uk Wed Nov 8 00:53:27 2006 From: phil at lchost.co.uk (Phillip Baker) Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2006 00:53:27 -0000 Subject: [LCH Announce] At risk & Maintenance notifications Message-ID: <002f01c702d0$4d917560$0e00080a@lchost.local> Hello, As part of our continuing upgrade program we will be performing the following works: AT RISK PERIOD: SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 10:00-10:30 DESCRIPTION OF WORKS: We are installing a multi-gigabit line card into rt0.the.core.lchost.net - while this should be transparent (the line cards are supposed to be hot insertable) there is still a slight risk that routing operations may be disrupted by the installation of the card. This card will be used to facilitate the upgrades of access switch uplinks to 1Gbps which will eliminate any current risk of congestion on the busier access switches. BACKOUT: Should inserting the line card cause problems that cannot be worked around the work and the below windows will be abandoned. MAINTENANCE PERIOD: SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 11:00-11:10 DESCRIPTION OF WORKS: Insertion of a GBIC into CAS2, and then the switch over to a gigabit uplink. This will cause an outage for all customers connected to CAS2 whilst the uplink is moved. This Customer Access Switch serves customers in TFM40 H15. Outage should only be a few minutes as all ports will be preconfigured and it should just be a case of moving the cable over. BACKOUT: Should the switch not accept the gigabit interface module, or the link prove to be unstable in some manner, the switch will be returned to previous configuration until a replacement parts can be provisioned. AT RISK/DEGRADED SERVICE PERIOD: SATURDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2006 12:00-12:30 DESCRIPTION OF WORKS: Rearrange transit feeds to better suit the new network topology. Feeds will be shut down cleanly, so there should not be any significant loss or latency increases. There may be a few minutes of instability or unreachability for international customers, depending on how the works proceed. This work will affect customers who take service from us over the Datahop Ring. BACKOUT: Should any problems occur, the network will be returned to its original state. As always, if you have any queries about these maintenance windows please let me know and I will be happy to answer them.
