Hi,
This notice ONLY affects customers hosted on cloud0, and customers using
cloud0 (213.230.209.115) as a DNS resolver.
Cloud0 will be having maintenance this weekend to upgrade key components
of the software operating on the server, in order to address a potential
security risk that has been identified.
This maintenance window will start on 18/09/2005 at 8am and may run for
upto 4 hours (12 noon). We expect the longest outages to affect mail
services - mail will be spooled on our backup mail exchangers and will
deliver as normal once the maintenance is completed.
During the maintenance, web, mysql, dns and email services will stop
functioning at some point. Web & DNS services will be brought back
online first, followed quickly by MySQL. We do not expect a service
outage of more than 25 to 30 minutes at the most for web, dns & mysql.
The upgrades to the mail system are rather more complex and will take
the longest to bring back online. You will be unable to send or receive
mail whilst the system is being updated.
We apologise for the short notice of the maintenance but have tried to
schedule it at a period to cause the least amount of disruption to most
users.
As an upshot of the upgrades, we expect to be able to offer mailman
powered mailing lists to customers, as well as an upgraded version of
the mail control panel, vexim. Please note that mailing lists will be an
unsupported feature of the service, and we will not hesitate to remove
the service from accounts if it is abused. We ask you to operate your
mailing lists responsibly and on an opt-in basis only.
A further message will be sent upon completion of the maintenance
window.
Regards,
Phillip Baker
