[LCH Announce] Brief Outage

Hi,

There has been a couple of brief outages over the past month or so, and
two in the past two days. This has been localised to our 1000SX fiber
link between the core switch and RT0, one of our routers - the link
resets and causes all LIPEX peering and partial transit sessions to
drop and then restablish, causing routing weirdness for upto 10-15
minutes after the event.

We are in the process of trying to identify what exactly is causing the
fault in the chain but as debugging is not outputting anything even
vaguely useful at present we are preparing to replace both GBICs and the
Fiber patch between them. If this does not resolve the issue then we are
potentially looking at a faulty GBIC socket on either the switch or the
I/O board in RT0 - neither of which we really want to have to replace
ahead of our planned core upgrades that were planned for 8-12 months
time.

We will keep you posted on the progress, and will be scheduling some
downtime in order to replace the GBICs and fiber early next month if not
sooner. Should the problem deteriorate to the stage where it is
resetting once per day (as opposed to once every 7-10 days as it has
been previously) we will have to bring the maintenance forward.
