Good Morning,
We have just experienced a DoS attack which saturated our KPN
connectivity during the above period. This will have caused unreliable
performance when accessing destinations that either route in or out over
KPN. There was also reduced performance and the possibility of packet
loss for a number of services on one of the switches servicing the
213.230.209.0/24 range due to the uplink being saturated. The attack
subsided before filters were put in place, which would have alleviated
the packetloss on the internal network.
We have raised abuse tickets with the apparent source of the attack and
will monitor the situation for further developments.
We apologise for this degradation which was unfortunately beyond our
control - while the routing equipment can now happily cope with most
attacks of this nature there is little we can do to combat attacks that
saturate connections which only last for a short period.
We do have plans to upgrade all key external connections to 1gbps in the
next 12 months which will enable us to better weather attacks of this
kind. Part of these upgrades will include strategic choices in transit
suppliers that allow us to better control inbound traffic to our network
by ourselves.
Assuring you of our attention at all times,
Regards,
Phillip Baker
